The Royal St. John’s Regatta is set to go Wednesday, weather permitting. If the weather is not suitable Wednesday, and the Regatta Committee postpones the event, the following is being announced in connection with whatever day the event falls upon.
Residents are advised in a city news release that, due to the Royal St. John’s Regatta holiday, all city offices are closed on Regatta Day.
On Regatta Day, the Bowring Park Pool will be open from 11 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. and the Splash Pad is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. All other City of St. John's recreation facilities are closed for the day.
Parking and Road Closures:
The City of St. John's will not enforce the Parking Meter Regulations on Regatta Day as it is an observed holiday under the Provincial Shop Closing Act. For information on which roads are affected by the St. John’s Regatta, check the City website at www.stjohns.ca,
Garbage and Recycling Collection:
Garbage and recycling collection is unaffected by the Regatta Day holiday and the normal fixed-day collection schedule will continue uninterrupted as follows:
* Wednesday, August 7: Garbage (3A/3B) and Recycling (3A)
* Thursday, August 8: Garbage (4A/4B) and Recycling (4A)
* Friday, August 9: Garbage (5A/5B) and Recycling (5A)
Residents are reminded that garbage and recyclables are not permitted to be put out for collection before 6 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
Robin Hood Bay Waste Management Facility:
The Robin Hood Bay Waste Management Facility is open during Regatta Day for both residential and commercial users. The Residential Drop-Off is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., while the Landfill is open to commercial users only from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Humane Services Shelter at 81 Higgins Line will be closed for the Regatta Day holiday.
Visitor Information Centres:
The City’s Visitor Information Centre at 348 Water St. is open for the Regatta Day holiday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Quidi Vidi Village Plantation Visitor Information Centre at 10 Maple View Place will be closed on Regatta Day.
The Access St. John’s Call Centre is always available and residents with questions or concerns can call 311 or (709) 754-CITY (2489). However, front counter service at City Hall will not be available on Regatta Day.
