Mount Pearl man accused of molesting young girls in Placentia area

A man sent to jail last year for sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl in Mount Pearl in 2010 is facing charges that he did the same to other girls decades earlier in the Placentia area.

Reginald Joseph O’Keefe is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Placentia on Aug. 29 on six counts of indecent assault against a minor — a charge that is now referred to as sexual assault in the Criminal Code of Canada.

The charges date back to the late 1960s and early 1970s and allege that O’Keefe molested four young girls, all younger than 16.

O’Keefe was said to have been living in Big Barasway, a small community near Placentia, at the time.

The 67-year-old was convicted in December 2012 of the sexual assault and sexual interference against the Mount Pearl toddler.

The little girl had called him “Uncle Reg,” but they were not related. O’Keefe was married to

her babysitter at the time of the assault.

He was sentenced to a year-long jail term, but is scheduled is scheduled to be released from prison today, having served two-thirds of his term.

Once he’s freed from jail, O’Keefe, who was registered as a sex offender as part of his sentence, will be on three years’ probation.
