The mayor of Appleton is seeking re-election in September and hopes to encourage others to step forward and volunteer their time to the town.

“Appleton is a progressive and growing town and I feel that I can continue to contribute to its progress,” Derm Flynn stated in a news release.

He said a lot of positive things have happened in the town in recent years — the winning of provincial and federal awards for environment and beautification, improvements to recreation facilties like its park marina and ice rink.

Flynn said about $1 million of work has gone into the Abydoz Sewage Treatment system, which is shared with the Town of Glenwood, and more work needs to be done.

“There are still some improvements to be completed to better enhance this system and an application has been made to (Municipal Affairs) to carry out this work.”

To date Flynn’s position isn’t being challenged.
