RNC releases video of armed robbery suspect

The RNC is asking the public to help identify the suspect seen in a video of an armed robbery that took place about 3:55 a.m. Aug. 5 at the Ultramar Service Station on Freshwater Road in St. John’s.

The male suspect was armed with a large knife when he entered the store and demanded cash and cigarettes before fleeing the scene towards Booth Memorial High School. He is seen in the video placing items in a backpack.

There were no injuries sustained during the incident.

The suspect is described as being in his 20s, approximately 5’10” tall with a slender build. At the time of the offence the suspect was wearing a green plaid shirt, plaid shorts, black sneakers, ball cap and a backpack.

RNC officers from patrol services, police dog services and forensic identification services responded to the call.

Anyone who can identify the suspect or who has information that would assist in identifying the person responsible, or anyone with information in relation to this crime is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).     What confuses me is the fact that the security cameras in place in these high risk areas have little to zero quality. Identification would come quicker and become less enticing with a modern camera and would seem vital for protecting single employee work days.

    I can't believe that the guy was in there for 2 1/2 minutes with 2 other people in the store....BEHIND HIS BACK.... that could have and should have jumped him or nailed him with something. He had the knife down most of the time and he's obviously a bumbling idiot so he would have been easy to take down. Tsk tsk.

    So let me get this straight here, RNC are looking for this guy and I guess wish to lay charges. The thing that boggles me is that this scum bag will be back on the streets in no time. He may spend a night or two in the lock up!!! Brutal!
