A 65-year-old St. John’s man has been charged after his pickup collided with a motorcycle on Kenmount Road in St. John’s Friday morning, and the 27-year-old operator of the motorcycle died from his injuries.

The charges against the accused include impaired driving causing death and operation of a motor vehicle over 80 mg of alcohol causing death, according to a statement from the RNC. He was charged and later released from custody to appear in provincial court at a later date.

The RNC says the collision occurred about 11:15 a.m. near the intersection of Polina Road and Kenmount Road. The pickup was turning left from Polina Road onto Kenmount Road and the motorcycle was travelling east on Kenmount Road at the time of the collision.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

RNC officers from patrol, accident investigation section and forensic identification services, along with paramedics from Eastern Health, responded to the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.

The charges against the accused include operation of a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit and impaired driving causing bodily harm. He was charged and later released from custody to appear in provincial court at a later date.

The RNC says the collision occurred about 11:15 a.m. today near the intersection of Polina Road and Kenmount Road. The pickup was turning left from Polina Road onto Kenmount Road and the motorcycle was travelling east on Kenmount Road at the time of the collision.

The motorcycle operator remains in hospital. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
