RNC seek assistance with collision investigation

The RNC is seeking the public’s help in connection with a hit and run collision that occurred in the area of Duckworth Street at Cathedral Street in St. John’s Friday Aug. 9, about 2:10 p.m.

The driver of one of the vehicles involved gave a false name to the other driver.

Details of the accident are that a red Mazda was travelling west on Duckworth Street and was stopped at a crosswalk located at the bottom of Cathedral Street. While stopped at the crosswalk, a dark-coloured Chevrolet Aveo collided with the rear bumper of the red Mazda.

Damage to both vehicles was minor and no injuries were reported.

The driver of the Chevrolet Aveo did stop at the scene but provided the operator of the Mazda with a false name and did not provide any of the required information under the Highway Traffic Act.

The driver of the Chevrolet Aveo is described as being approximately 35-45 years of age, 5’10 with a slim build, buzz-cut brown hair, clean shaven, and was wearing eye glasses.

RNC accident investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information in relation to the collision or the owner/operator of the vehicle is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
