Scheduled for court appearance in St. John’s this afternoon

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in St. John’s on an outstanding warrant issued in Quebec in 2008.

He is expected to be brought into provincial court this afternoon to hear charges set against him — charges said to include attempted murder.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) arrested the man Wednesday evening.

According to RNC Const. Talia Murphy, charges against the man will include: attempt to commit murder, assault with a weapon and aggravated assault.

The charges have yet to be confirmed by The Telegram.

“We picked him up for another organization,” Murphy said, saying that organization was the Sûreté du Québec, the Quebec provincial police.

“We had information and we found him last evening and picked him up,” she said, offering few details on the arrest itself.

Police officers from Quebec are in the province and Murphy said she expects the accused man will be taken by them back to Quebec, following his court appearance in St. John’s.

The Telegram will provide further information on this story as soon as it becomes available.
