St. John’s amongst Northeast Avalon communities closing nominations today

If you’re looking to run as a candidate in next month’s municipal election in either St. John’s, Bay Bulls, Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove or Flatrock, it’s best to make sure all the necessary paperwork has been filed before the end of today.

The nomination deadline to run in the Sept. 24 municipal election is indeed Tuesday, Aug. 27 in all four municipalities.

While many candidates in Newfoundland and Labrador’s capital city already have signs up, nothing will be official until each candidate makes the proper arrangements with the city election office to arrange a nomination appointment. The nomination period in St. John’s got underway last Tuesday.

Nominees in any municipality across Newfoundland and Labrador are typically required to have a proposer and seconder in place and pay a non-refundable nomination fee in order to confirm their candidacy .

Elsewhere in the Northeast Avalon and Southern Shore, most nomination deadlines are set for later this week. In Bauline and Holyrood, nominations close on Wednesday.

Those seeking a position on council in either Mount Pearl, Conception Bay South, Paradise, Torbay, Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, or Witless Bay have until Thursday to formalize their decision to run.

Pouch Cove is the lone municipality in the North East Avalon with a nomination deadline extending beyond this week. The deadline in that community is Tuesday, Sept. 3.
