The charges follow a month-long child pornography investigation, the RNC in Corner Brook said.

The charges read that between Aug. 8 and Sept. 5, the accused is alleged to have made available child pornography — sharing over the Internet images of persons under the age of 18 engaged in or depicted as being engaged in explicit sexual activity.

And between Aug. 8 and Sept. 5, he is alleged to have been in possession of child pornography — possessing images of a person who is depicted as being under the age of 18 engaged in or depicted as being engaged in explicity sexual activity.

The case was set over to Oct. 29 for election and plea.

The RNC said that, on Tuesday, police searched a residential property in central Newfoundland after receiving information regarding the possession and distribution of child pornography material over the Internet.

As a result, a computer system and multiple mobile storage devices were seized as evidence and will undergo a forensic evaluation.

The accused was arrested by the RNC Child Exploitation Unit and charged with possession of child pornography and making available/distributing child pornography. The RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit, Technical Crime Unit and Patrol Division, were also involved in the case.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Child Exploitation Unit is asking anyone who has any information in relation to this incident or any other incident involving child pornography to contact the RNC at 637-4100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
