Fled from vehicle during traffic stop

A man who fled from police Saturday afternoon after patrol officers initiated a traffic stop on his vehicle was arrested for driving while prohibited and was given a seven day driving suspension. He was also issued summary offence tickets for having no insurance,  having false plates, having no licence and driving an unregistered vehicle. The vehicle he was driving was seized.

The twenty-six year old male led police on a foot chase through a Mount Pearl neighbourhood during the supper hour Saturday. Officers, including the K-9 unit, could be seen searching for the man on area walking paths and properties. He was apprehended without incident.

(Earlier story)

There was a bit of excitement for residents of a Mount Pearl neighbourhood Saturday afternoon as officers with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary descended on the area to look for a man who had fled on foot after a patrol officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle he was driving.

A number of officers on foot, including a K-9 unit, searched the area between Park Avenue and Smallwood Drive while others cruised through the neighbourhood in patrol vehicles. Curious neighbours could be seen standing on sidewalks and lawns watching the scene unfold.

The suspect was apprehended soon afterwards on Jersey Avenue, handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle. One officer told the man he was under arrest and then he was driven away from the scene.

RNC media relations officer Const. Talia Murphy said the man was apprehended without incident and an investigation is continuing to determine what charges will be laid in the incident.
