St. John’s — A 29-year-old man arrested on weapons possession charges in the capital city is behind bars.
Gord Bishop appeared in provincial court this afternoon.
He faces several charges, including possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing of weapon for dangerous purpose and breaching a court order by having a weapon.
Bishop was picked up by police this morning after he was reportedly acting suspiciously on Harvey Road. Officers say they then discovered Bishop had prohibited weapons.
Sources told The Telegram that Bishop had a Taser gun.
Crown prosecutor Glynne Faulkner opposed releasing Bishop. He’s due back in court Wednesday.

This morning, members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary saw a man acting suspiciously in the Harvey Road area and officers say they found prohibited weapons in his possession. He is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose and possession contrary to a court order. The male was held to appear in provincial court this afternoon. Police did not release his name or the type of weapon involved.
