Cathy Bennett says business skills, hard work will make her the best leader

Liberal leadership candidate Cathy Bennett released her plan for the Liberal party on Tuesday during a news conference held in the lobby of her campaign headquarters on Kenmount Road in St. John’s.

Her plan, titled “Building a Stronger Liberal Party Together,” focuses on listening to voters, attracting strong candidates for the party and straightening out the fiscal books for the Liberals.

“Today is about vision, putting a plan into action, and about change,” Bennett said.

Bennett, who is the CEO of the Bennett Group of Cos., didn’t spend much time highlighting her business career, but was obviously shining a light on her abilities to make the Liberal party a success through the strengths she’s built as an entrepreneur.

“We must have a leader who is willing to roll up her sleeves and get the job done. And that’s exactly what I’m going to do.”

Bennett said a leader must be the first one to get to work in the morning and the last one to go home at night. Obviously setting her sights on running the province, she also spoke about building a party that can win an election.

While the goals of the Bennett plan sounded old hat — “Some of that sound familiar?” Bennett herself joked prior to taking questions — the Liberal hopeful did say specifically the party needed new ideas.

And while she has some of her own, part of her plan is to find new talent in a party that’s been lacking in recent years.

Bennett’s entire plan can be viewed on her website.

She is challenged by Paul Antle, Jim Bennett, Danny Dumaresque and Dwight Ball for the leadership of the Liberal party.

Read the plan. Her plan is slick but weak, more wish list than deliverables in the short time to the next General Election in 2015. It's more about cheap impression making and glib public relations than things that can actually be done successfully. Both the Liberals and the Province need more than PR motivations at the moment.

She didn't spend much time highlighting her business career? Thats because she sat on Nalcor, is buddies with King Danny, and brings in foreign workers (because somehow there aren't enough skilled NL'ers to work at McDonalds??? Skilled labour at McDonalds??). Not to mention being a long-time supporter of the Cons. This women is an opportunist.
