Liberal MHA Tom Osborne said Tuesday that Dwight Ball was a big part of the reason why he joined the party.

Osborne formally endorsed Ball in the party’s leadership race, saying he’s the best option to lead the Liberals in the House of Assembly.

“I have a great deal of respect for Dwight. I’ve seen how he conducts himself in the House of Assembly,” Osborne said.

“He’s an honest man. He’s got credibility. You know, he acts with a great sense of morality and I appreciate all of those characteristics.”

Five Liberal leadership contenders have spent the summer signing up new supporters for the party and trying to amass votes from within the party faithful.

Osborne has only been a member of the Liberal team since Aug. 29, but he said he believes Ball is the best pick. Moreover, he said that Ball already has a seat in the House of Assembly and that’s a big bonus.

“He’s got experience in the legislature and we won’t have to wait for a byelection to wait for a byelection for the leader to take the reins and lead the party — not only outside the House, but inside the House,” he said.

“That uncertainty is removed with Dwight.”

Liberals will vote to pick their new leader in November.
