Owner later said boat broke loose from mooring

Emergency teams began a search of the Humber River late Tuesday after a call came in of an unoccupied canoe floating down the river.

Corner Brook RNC, the Corner Brook Fire Department and Bay of Islands Search and Rescue team began a ground and water search about 5:45 p.m.

The owner of the boat was located within Corner Brook. It was concluded that the boat had broken loose in the Steady Brook area and floated into the Bay of Islands.

The search was concluded at 8 p.m.
