A 46-year-old woman was injured in Carbonear Thursday when struck by a vehicle on a newly installed pedestrian crosswalk on Highroad South, near the Carbonear General Hospital.
Her injuries are reported to be non-life threatening.
The RCMP says that shortly before 2 p.m., a beige Ford Ranger was travelling north-bound on Highroad South at the intersection, when it hit the woman.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
The Trinity Conception RCMP reminds the general public that pedestrians should always take extra time to check traffic both ways prior to crossing the street, and drivers are urged to watch for pedestrian traffic. Drivers are required to stop and remain stopped when the crosswalk lights are flashing and may only proceed when the crosswalk is clear of pedestrians.
