The whereabouts of a man who was spotted late Saturday afternoon standing in waist-deep water along the shoreline of Cape Spear are unknown as of early Sunday morning, according to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
Police were initially called to the area after Parks Canada personnel approached the man, who reportedly ran northwest on a path passing the main parking lot at Cape Spear. There was concern about the man’s mental health, according to the RNC’s overnight report issued Sunday.
Officers searched the shoreline and northwest to the East Coast Trail, but could not find him. Police said there were many people in the area at the time of the incident.
As of Sunday morning, police had yet to determine whether the man re-entered the water or left the area.
