The RCMP has confirmed that at approx. 11:30 Monday morning, a bomb threat was discovered at the Vale Inco site in Long Harbour.
Bob Carter, manager of corporate affairs, said the threat was made through a hand written note.
“We discovered a note written on a bathroom stall to the effect that there was a bomb in one of the buildings on our site.”
The contractors involved removed the people from the building and contacted the RCMP.
A comprehensive inspection of the building was carried out.
“Nothing was found in the building itself and they’re protocol is to return the people to the work place which was done I think probably about an hour after.”
RCMP met with the contractor personnel and reviewed the steps they had taken and the evidence they had .
This was the first bomb threat for the Vale Inco Long Harbour site.
The RCMP continue to investigater the matter.
