A construction worker has been taken to hospital with apparent lower leg and foot injuries after he was struck by an excavator doing roadwork on Gorman Avenue in Kilbride today.

The accident happened just before 1 p.m. as workers were doing street repairs in the area. A witness said the worker apparently had his foot and lower leg pinned under the excavator.

Paramedics from the St. John's Regional Fire Department and Eastern Health tended to the victim as he was lying on the road next to the excavator. The man, who appeared in his mid-20s, was conscious and alert, speaking to emergency officials.

The road is closed at the moment where the accident happened as police and occupational health and safety investigate the incident.

People should always be careful when working under such kind works. Never neglect anything that can cause harm on your, always think before you act.
