Brittany Jenkins allegedly hid knife in clothing before June court appearance

A woman who reportedly had a knife stuffed in her bra when she tried to pass through a security scanner at St. John’s provincial court earlier this year appears to be willing to settle her legal troubles within the next week.

Brittany Jenkins, 19, appeared in court Friday morning escorted in handcuffs by a sheriff’s officer. It was the work of sheriff’s officers that led to the alleged discovery of a knife with a three-inch blade in Jenkins’ bra on June 13.

During her courtroom appearance Friday, Jenkins said she is aware that her next appearance on Oct. 3 would be for a speedy disposition.

Jenkins was in court on June 13 for allegedly falsely reporting a robbery and for multiple thefts. The security scanner sounded as she walked through it, and officers reportedly noticed a large bulge in her shirt. Jenkins reportedly at first denied concealing anything.

After a hand-held device detected metal in her chest area, Jenkins reportedly suggested it was her underwire bra it was detecting. She eventually removed the knife after the officers reportedly insisted on conducting another search.

Jenkins is charged with breaching court security, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a weapon dangerous to the public, along with other charges.
