Man charged with assault in downtown St. John’s

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to 199 calls in 24 hours from early Wednesday morning to early this morning.


Around 10:15 a.m. Wednedsay, RNC officers responded to a report of disturbance in front of Atlantic Place on Water Street in St.John’s .

A 25-year-old man was arrested for common assault. He was taken into custody and then to court. The 63-year-old male victim was treated at hospital for what are believed to be minor injuries.

 At 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, RNC officers conducted a traffic safety stop on Commonwealth Avenue. A 47-year-old male driver was issued summary offence tickets for operating an unregistered vehicle, operating without a valid insurance policy, having false stickers, no valid driver’s licence and failing to transfer ownership of the vehicle. The vehicle was impounded.

 At 12:55 a.m., RNC officers conducted a traffic safety stop in the Foxtrap area. As a result, a 46-year-old man was arrested for impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol reading above the legal limit. He was released to appear in court at a later date.
