A 44-year-old man was charged with impaired driving and refusing the breathalyzer after a traffic stop by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary around 1 a.m. this morning on Blackmarsh Road in St. John’s.
The driver was also charged with breach of probation and operating a vehicle without insurance.
While attempting to stop the suspect driver, the RNC said his vehicle struck a parked car. But police were successful in stopping it and preventing any more damage to other property.
The RNC said the driver owed $ 6,000 in traffic fines. The vehicle was impounded and he was held in custody for a court appearance. There were no injuries reported as a result of the collision.
