Police say both cases are still under investigation
There were no injuries reported after two armed robberies at convenience stores in St. John’s this weekend.
On Saturday night, about 9:45 p.m., police received a report of an armed robbery at the Orange Store on Pennywell Road.
Two people went into the store and, with a knife, demanded cash, lottery tickets and cigarettes.
They then ran from the store towards Prince of Wales Street.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) responded with patrol officers paired with the K-9 unit, forensic unit and criminal investigation division officers. No arrests have yet been made.
On Sunday, at about 6:45 p.m. the RNC were called to the Marie’s Mini Mart on Elizabeth Avenue, in Churchill Square.
Two men, with faces covered, had held up the store, taking cash and cigarettes. Again, the weapon reported used was a knife.
Police have not said if there is believed to be any connection between the two cases. Both cases are still under investigation.
