Owner of clinic where shooting took place says he’s overwhelmed with support from the community
RNC say the man who gunned down two people before shooting himself this week had a semi-automatic weapon, a handgun and prohibited ammunition clips, and was wearing body armour.

A section of Villa Nova Plaza parking lot in Manuels was closed to the public after a double shooting occurred at the plaza Tuesday evening.
In a news release Friday afternoon, police say that when Brian Dawe, who killed his former girlfriend, Julianne Hibbs, and Vince Dillion in Manuels Tuesday night, was found in a vehicle in the Anglican cemetery on Kenmount Road Wednesday morning, he was wearing the armour, and had a 9mm handgun, an AK-47 semi-automatic assault rifle and hundreds of rounds of ammunitions in clips that carried more ammunition than legally allowed. The police statement says Dawe was “in lawful possession” of the firearms.
The RNC’s media relations divison says the investigation continues, and that an additional 43 weapons were seized from Dawe’s house, including one prohibited weapon, seven restricted weapons, 12 non-restricted weapons and 25 air rifles.
RNC media relations officer Const. Talia Murphy declined an interview.
“At this time we are only providing written releases on this information,” Murphy said in an email.
Asked via email for clarification on how someone can legally have an AK-47, a prohibited weapon in Canada — and if the RNC knew how many legally owned AK-47s are in its jurisdiction — Murphy did not respond by press time.
Clinic staff coping
Meanwhile, the doctor who owns the clinic in Villa Nova Plaza where the shooting took place said his employees were coping in the aftermath of the tragedy.
“Everybody’s doing well,” said Dr. Eslier Aguilar. “Shaken … but basically everybody’s doing OK.”
Aguilar said he was overwhelmed with the support of patients and community residents he’s heard from in the past few days.
“We have had incredible support — hundreds of phone calls from people asking if we’re OK and how we’re doing, and offering help,” he said.
The doctor said he hadn’t been back to the office since the shooting, as police had it closed until Thursday night, and a cleaning crew was working at the office Friday.
“There’s a crew working there now and I don’t want to disturb them in any way, so Monday we’ll be back to looking after our patients.”
