Furlong received a standing ovation for comments about taking a stand against government cuts and its plan to overhaul pension plans.
To a packed room she said she will not stand by and allow the erosion of pensions.
Furlong said the Progressive Conservative Government has wasted an opportunity to make positive change in health care and education, and instead has cut and attacked the public service.
“Make no wonder they're at the bottom of the polls,” she said to applause.
The convention continues until Saturday.
