Husky Energy gets green light for add-on to North Amethyst site work
The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (CNLOPB) has approved additional work by Husky Energy at its North Amethyst development.
It means another eight million barrels of oil is expected to be produced.
The board met Sept. 23 to consider an application from Husky requesting permission to amend its development plan for the North Amethyst project. The new plan would allow Husky to tap into what is known as the Hibernia Formation — unrelated to the Hibernia development led by ExxonMobil Canada.
The geological formation is below the area where most of the oil from North Amethyst has been drawn.
The CNLOPB’s decision on the application was made after a detailed review by staff at the offshore regulator. The decision was then ratified by both the provincial and federal ministers.
