The fire department's 911 emergency line received a number of calls about the fire.

Shift Supt. Derek Chafe said upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy flames and smoke coming out of the basement windows. He said crews were able to knock down the fire quickly, although the basement apartment portion of the home received extensive fire, smoke and water damage.

Chafe said there were no injuries at the scene and there was nobody home when the fire broke out.

The fire is under investigation by the RNC.
