Hundreds gathered in front of a home on a small street in Conception Bay South Monday night to support the family of a teenage boy battling brain cancer.
It has been almost two years since doctors diagnosed Riley Mercer, 15, with brain cancer. It’s the second time his parents, Bernie and Louise, have dealt with cancer in the family.
In 2002, Riley’s sister Alex died following a 15-month battle with cancer at the age of nine.
According to a family friend who spoke at the event, Riley has lost his vision and ability to hear.
Monday night’s vigil included songs and prayers. Attendees waved LED lights at times to show their support.
