A 22-year-old Sheshatshiu man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his four-month-old infant boy, the RCMP announced today.

Thomas George Michel will be appearing in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador, provincial court this afternoon.

The charge comes after a month-long investigation by the RCMP in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

On Oct. 15, the RCMP was asked to come to the Happy Valley-Goose Bay hospital due to what were determined suspicious circumstances surrounding the sudden death of the infant boy.

The investigation included the RCMP Major Crime Unit, Labrador District General Investigation Section, and investigators from the Sheshatshiu detachment. This team worked with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause and manner of death.
