The RNC has issued an advisory to motorists that it will be increasing patrols in an effort to reduce impaired driving during the upcoming holiday season.

RNC Patrol Services and Traffic Services will also be initiating random traffic checkpoints at various times and locations throughout the Northeast Avalon.

A news release notes that checkpoints will occur in the weeks preceding Christmas and will continue until after New Year’s.

People attending parties and social gatherings during the Christmas season and who will be indulging in some Christmas cheer should seek alternative sources of transportation to and from these events, such as a designated driver or a taxi.

Anyone who has information about unsafe or illegal motor vehicle operation is asked to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

It boggles me when the RNC does this. Why are Holidays more important that any other weekend? They should provide equal patrol all year round!! SO basically its easier to get away with drinking and driving on a non-holiday weekend! That's a great news! NOT
