Labour delegates rally in support of striking Labatt workers

Delegates to the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour's (NLFL) First Triennial Constitution Convention held a rally at noon today in front of Confederation Building in a show of solidarity and support for striking Labatt Brewery workers.

They are calling on the provincial government to act to prevent such prolonged labour disputes.

Convention delegates have also endorsed the idea of legislation to probihit the use of replacement workers during labour disputes.

    I understand where the union is coming from wanting the government to put in anti-scab legislation but how can the NDP endorse such a silly and thoughtless idea! Let the union pay the employees while they are on strike (paid vacation) while the breweries are unable to produce any product to stay in business. Maybe the government should introduce legislation to outlaw strikes!
