A resident of Conception Bay South is facing criminal charges for abusive treatment of a dog.

According to a news release issued Wednesday by the Town of C.B.S., police have charged the resident with causing distress to an animal and improperly hitching an animal to a fixed object.

Humane services officers with the town found the dog, known as Champ, had an infected neck caused by its collar. The male dog was taken to a veterinary clinic.  The matter was turned over to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary on Oct. 8.

Charges against the accused fall under the Animal Health and Protection Act. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 18.

Meanwhile, the town plans to help find a new home for the dog once it recovers.

If you're not smart enough to treat a living creature any better than this, you shouldn't be allowed to live freely among the people and creatures of the world.

What is wrong with people!! The punishment for animal cruelty needs to be way harder then it is! Right now its a joke!! Animals are loving creatures who feel pain both emotional and physical just like people!

I see another animal lover. You must be so proud of yourself. I guess if you can't abuse people then you'll abuse an innocent animal. The law really needs to change and stiffer penalties for animal abusers.

People like this should be banned from ever owning any animal ever again and the law needs to hand out stiffer punishment to deter animal abusers. A hefty fine and jail time should be in order for this individual.

Wish people would get stiffer fines for this and more of us need to keep an eye out and report this kinds of abuse. What's wrong with people?
