A house was completely destroyed by fire this morning in Lourdes on the province’s west coast.
There was no one home at the time of the blaze, and there were no injuries in fighting the fire.
The RCMP in Bay St. George received a report from the Lourdes Fire Department about 4:13 a.m. that firefighters were at the scene.
When firefighters first arrived, the home was completely engulfed in flames.
RCMP officers arrived on the scene shortly after and were advised that, due to high winds and downed power lines, it was not safe at that time for the firefighters to extinguish the fire.
At 6:16 a.m., Newfoundland Power arrived at the scene to deal with the downed power lines. The firefighters were then able to water down the scene.
The structure and contents were completely destroyed.
The owner of the home was out of town and the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
