Hundreds of people - the young and the young at heart - attended the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Confederation Building this evening.

The ceremony featured Christmas carols sung by the Roncalli Elementary School Choir, hot refreshments and snacks, as well as the lighting all 20,000 lights of the tree.

The switch to light the tree was thrown by MHA Sandy Collins and his family.

They said they could no longer take care of the floats in the Christmas parade in St. John's because they aren't doing it for the rest of the province but yet thay have lights strung from the Useless Building to the HSC.
