The RCMP and the Happy Valley-Goose Bay Crime Prevention Committee are partnering on Friday for an initiative called Project Parking Lot.

Members of the RCMP and Crime Prevention Committee will put on reflective vests and visit parking lots in Happy Valley-Goose Bay to check vehicles to determine if they are at risk for theft.

The members will be doing a quick check — first to see if vehicles are locked, then looking from the outside-in to see if valuables are left in plain sight and if keys are left in the ignition, or in view.

Once a vehicle is checked a brochure will be left on the windshield.

The RCMP says some vehicle owners at this time of year forget the basic safeguards for their car that would prevent theft of items within the vehicle.
