The announcement will be at the ferry terminal building in Portugal Cove at 2 p.m.

Following the news conference, McGrath, Brazil and officials from Damen Shipyards will depart Portugal Cove on the MV Flanders at 2:30 p.m.

The contract signing is scheduled to take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Heritage Hall on Bell Island, where local residents are invited to attend.

In November, the province announced awarding of a contract to Damen Shipyards for a new ferry for the Fogo Island and Change Islands service, estimated at $51 million. Delivery of the new ferry is expected in September 2015.

At that announcement, government said it intended to negotiate a second 80-metre vessel for the Bell Island ferry run, and an additional $10 million will be spent to upgrade wharf infrastructure on Bell Island and in Portugal Cove to accommodate the new vessel.
