Children offer up theories about Santa’s age, his off-season activities and other things

Who better to explain the excitement of Christmas than a small child?

The Telegram recently visited Happy Times Preschool in St. John’s to interview some tiny Christmas ambassadors about the holidays.

What does Santa do once Christmas is over?

Are grownups on the Nice List or the Naughty List?

Charlie, age 4

How old is Santa?

“One.” (laughs)

What does he do once Christmas is over?

“He goes back to the North Pole to sleep. In a crib, because he’s a baby. He’s a baby with a beard.”

 

Clarey, age 2

What do you want for Christmas?

“A pink ball with eyes and a mouth.”

How old is Santa?

“I think he’s young. He’s five.”

 

Darcy, age 3

What do you want for Christmas?

“A brother. I asked that from my mom on Christmas. And new skates, because my skates are old. They broke.”

 What’s Santa going to bring your dad?

“Three presents! Skates. He likes to skate. Me, too. And guess what! I got potty-trained!”

 

Isabel, age 5

What do you think Santa wants for Christmas?

“A new reindeer.”

Do you think he might bring you your missing tooth back for Christmas?

“No. I don’t want it back.”

 

Jack, age 4

What do you think Santa wants for Christmas?

“A sled.”

Do you you think your mommy is on the Nice List or the Naughty List?

“Nice. She reads me stories and puts me to bed.”

James, age 3

What’s your favourite part about Christmas?

“When Santa Claus comes in the chimney. I’m going to lay out some cookies for him and some carrots for the reindeer. Santa Claus has pretend reindeer. He has pretend reindeer in the parade, but real reindeer on Christmas Eve.”

 

Malachy,

age 4

Do you know why we have Christmas?

“Because it’s Baby Jesus’ birthday.”

What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

“When Santa leaves presents under the Christmas tree. And you get to eat all the chocolate you want on Christmas.”

What do you want for Christmas?

“A new jewelry box and new jewelry.”

How old is Santa?

“Really old. Maybe four.”

 

Zoë, age 5

What does Santa do in the North Pole all day?

“He makes presents.”

How old do you think he is?”

“Thirteen.”
