Information needs to be passed over before case can proceed
A legal case involving Vale Newfoundland and Labrador was called in provincial court in St. John's this morning, only to be set over to a later date.
The Crown has yet to provide disclosure of information to Vale's lawyers — a requirement for the case to proceed.
As previously reported, Vale Newfoundland and Labrador is facing charges alleging the company illegally dumped liquid waste near its Voisey's Bay mine.
The charges are: unlawfully depositing deleterious substance in water, failure to report a deposit of deleterious substance in water and breach of an Act or regulations.
The case is scheduled to be called again Jan. 23.
