Multiple assaults reported in St. John’s metro area on Christmas Day

Police in the St. John’s metro area responded to multiple assault complaints on Christmas Day, according to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s overnight report.


A 27 year-old man was taken to hospital late Wednesday afternoon. The victim told police that another person assaulted him with a weapon. No information was available about the extent of the injuries or the type of weapon involved, and no arrests were made as of early Thursday morning.

A short while later, police responded to an assault complaint in Paradise. A 23-year-old man was arrested and charged with uttering threats, two counts of assault and property damage. The accused was released to appear in court at a later date.

During the early hours of Boxing Day, the RNC responded to a report of an assault in the west end of St. John’s. Police arrested a youth and charged the youth with assault. That person was scheduled to appear in Weekend and Statutory Holidays Court on Thursday.
