The Loop — Bannerman Park's new outdoor skating rink — will be closed Saturday, according to an email from the City of St. John's.

The closure is due to heavy snowfall expected overnight.

"The forecasted snowfall is expected to deposit 25 to 30 cm of light snow. This in combination with 70 km/h wind gusts, persisting throughout most of Saturday, will delay snow clearing effort," communications and public relations officer Jennifer Mills said in the email.

The Loop is expected to reopen Sunday.

I truly believe that the one location that should not have had to put out the lights is The Loop. This is a physical fitness place and we all know that the people of this country and this province need exercise as much as they need food and sleep. If the citizens of our City chose to go to the Loop for enjoyment and physical fitness, then they wouldn't be home using up electric energy for all their gadgets. People should think before they call for putting out the lights on this wonderful activity. It is okay to put out the lights in unoccupied government buildings and the Christmas lights around the city but not The Loop! Stop being Grinches!
