Chief medical examiner says man died of hypothermia

The province's chief medical examiner has determined that a man found face down in the snow in Placentia on Dec. 31 died of hypothermia.

The RCMP said today it is continuing to investigate what it terms a suspicious death.

Joseph Flynn, 55, from the Placentia area, was found face down in the snow at the bottom of a staircase in front of his house on the morning of Dec. 31. The RCMP received the call about 7:40 a.m. that day.

The RCMP's Major Crime Unit and police officers from the Placentia detachment are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

Investigative team members are tracking the movements of Flynn before his death and are speaking with members of the community to determine all the facts surrounding his final hours.

The RCMP says there is no risk to the public.
