In a news release, the PUB said the process will initially focus on Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro’s ability to meet load requirements on the system throughout this winter and the next several winter seasons.

At a meeting on Wednesday, Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro provided information to the PUB, which can be viewed under the heading Island Interconnected System - January 2014 Supply Issues and Power Outages on the board’s website at

The PUB will establish the process and timelines for the inquiry and hearing in the next several days.

The process shouldn't be fully controlled by PUB. PUB also has a part to play in processes at Hydro. Who's to say the issue isn't caused by something PUB didn't approve in Hydros capital program over the past few years?

Good move. Puts the ball back in Dunderdale's court. She had hoped to pre-empt any move by the PUB to conduct its own inquiry. If she still wants to silence the PUB, she's going to need to re-open the House and pass legislation giving her review primacy while further curtailing the powers of the PUB to conduct its own inquiry. The question is whether the hundreds of thousands who suffered through an unnecessary blackout would go along with the scheme.

So does this mean we'll be having two separate inquiries--- an independent inquiry by the PUB and an "independent" inquiry by a panel of "experts" of WonderTale's choosing?

So does this mean we'll be having two enquiries--- and independent enquiry by the PUB and an "independent" inquiry by a handpicked group of "experts" of WonderTale's choosing?
