Another piece of history disappeared in Grand Bank Jan. 7 with the demolition of the old Forward and Tibbo building on Water Street.

Built in 1910 by Charles Forward and Felix Tibbo, it was one of the stores that exemplified the once-prosperous fishing industry in the community.
There have been several extensions to the building over the years, but according to Grand Bank Mayor Rex Matthews, it had to be taken down due to safety concerns.
“Over the years, the building had deteriorated to the extent that it was structurally unsafe. The weather in the last week has made the situation even worse,” he said.
“The roof has collapsed; the main beams between the first and second floors have collapsed, and the building is bulging out. It has gotten to the point that, in the interest of public safety, we had to remove it before someone got hurt.”
