Cpl. Judy Morgan of the Bay St. George RCMP said Saturday afternoon that police were notified of a fire at a residence at 2 a.m. and on arrival found the mobile home fully engulfed in flames.

Police investigators on the scene Saturday afternoon had not at that time determined a cause for the fire.

Morgan said the woman was the lone occupant of the trailer.

The Stephenville Crossing Volunteer Fire Department along with firefighters from the Safety and Emergency Response Training Centre in Stephenville responded to the blaze.

Firefighters managed to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to a nearby home.

A neighbour on nearby Pieroway’s Lane, who preferred not to be identified, said the fire was really hot and lit up the night sky.

He said he hardly knew the woman, but certainly felt for her family and their loss.
