Scales of justice

Taylor Mitchell appeared in provincial court in St. John's Wednesday afternoon. He's scheduled to return Thursday, at which time he hopes to be freed on bail.

The 22-year-old was taken into custody Tuesday evening after he reportedly tried to attack the couple at his grandparents' house on Thorburn Road in St. John's.

He's charged with two counts each of assault with a weapon and uttering threats, along with single counts of assault, being unlawfully in a dwelling house and breaching court orders.

Mitchell also has outstanding charges, including uttering threats, causing a disturbance and theft from October 2013 and failing to appear in court in September 2012.
