A man, 54, and his 18-year-old son were found safe in a cabin this morning following an intensive search of an area north of Nain after the two were reporting missing Thursday night.
The man and son, who left Nain on a snowmobile on a wood cutting trip, failed to return at their expected time and were reported missing to the Nain RCMP about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
A RCMP release says that family members and members of the Nain Ground Search and Rescue team attempted to locate the men Thursday night, but were unsuccessful and the search was called off until daylight.
Search and rescue members returned to the area this morning and were assisted in the search by the RCMP Air Services Section from Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
About 11:30 a.m. the men were found. The snowmobile they had been operating had broken down and they walked to an unoccupied cabin in the area.
Neither man was injured and both were brought back to Nain.
The RCMP is reminding snowmobilers to use safe practices when they go out on trips. Ensure someone knows where you have gone and when you plan on returning, wear warm clothing and safety gear and, if possible, carry a satellite phone with you.
