Could result in rain, freezing drizzle in eastern parts of the island

Environment Canada is warning of a heavy snowfall Saturday night for southwestern Newfoundland with amounts possibly exceeding 15 centimetres before ending on Sunday.

Rain or freezing drizzle is forecast for eastern portions of the island Saturday and Sunday.

A low pressure system is forecast to develop off Cape Cod on Saturday and intensify as it approaches Newfoundland Saturday night.

The system will continue to intensify as it crosses the eastern portion of the island Sunday morning.

Snow at times heavy will develop over southwestern Newfoundland Saturday evening and spread northeastward throughout the night with amounts expected to reach or exceed 15 centimetres before tapering off on Sunday.

Strong north to northeasterly winds will develop overnight Saturday as the low passes resulting in reduced visibilities in blowing snow late overnight into Sunday morning.
