Harold Douglas Grace made a brief appearance in provincial court in St. John’s Monday.

Duty counsel Jane Fitzpatrick told Judge Pamela Goulding that Grace is consenting to return to jail until his next court date, Feb. 5.

Grace was arrested Saturday afternoon after he reportedly caused an accident on a busy city street.

Police say officers had tried to stop Grace while he was driving on Cashin Avenue, but he refused to stop and sped away. Due to the high speeds, police say, officers did not continue to follow him.

Shortly afterwards, his car was reported to have been involved in a collision on Kenmount Road. Grace reportedly crashed into two cars before his damaged car came to a stop on Peet Street.

Police say the two drivers of the cars Grace was said to have struck were hurt, but their injuries aren’t believed to be life-threatening.

The licence plate of the car Grace was driving was reportedly stolen.

The 27-year-old is facing six charges — impaired driving causing bodily harm, failing to remain at the scene of an accident, dangerous driving, evading police, possessing a weapon dangerous to the public (a knife) and possessing stolen property (the licence plate).

He was also charged with six traffic violations — operating an unregistered vehicle, having a false licence plate, operating a vehicle without proper equipment, driving with no insurance, driving with a suspended licence and failing to transfer ownership of a vehicle.
