A female driver was given a ticket for disobeying a red light Monday after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Empire Avenue and Stamps Lane in St John’s.

The accident occurred around 3:42 p.m.

One vehicle was heading north on Stamps Lane when it was in collision with a west bound vehicle on Empire Avenue. The RNC said there were no injuries and damage was minor.

Shortly after 5 p.m., police also responded to a three-vehicle collision on Empire Avenue, west of the Freshwater Road intersection. All three vehicles were headed east on Empire Ave when the first and second vehicles stopped, causing a chain reaction involving three vehicles.  There were no injuries but damage was moderate. Two of the vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

And how about the number of near accidents daily?? How about releasing the number of tickets that have been issued by the RNC for both running red lights, tailgating and actually cell phone use. We all know it is at epidemic levels yet RNC do nothing about it. No wonder more and more people are doing it.

Running of red lights has become an epidemic in this city. I don't do that much driving around yet I see at least one or two people racing through reds every single day.

Two of the biggest nuisances on the road; drivers who tailgate and drivers who run red lights. One doesn't have enough sense to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front and the other is the reason why so many accidents happen at intersections. Responsible drivers have to contend with these nuisances every day.
