A woman was injured and taken away on stretcher after the car she was driving collided with — and cracked off — a pole on Mundy Pond Road in St. John’s this afternoon.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Murphy’s Lane.

Newfoundland Power is on the scene assessing the damage — including wires from the cracked pole that are lying across other electrical wires.

The St. John’s Regional Fire Department has closed Mundy Pond Road while the scene assessment continues.

The accident is one of a number in the St. John’s area this afternoon following the current snowfall that has resulted in snow-covered and slippery roads.

There are a number of accidents in the downtown area, particularly on hills.

One official at the Mundy Pond Road accident scene said that drivers are not slowing down for the road conditions, thus causing accidents.
