The City of St. John’s has issued an advisory warning people to respect public facilities and the law.

The Loop

The news release follows the posting of a recent video showing a man skating around the Loop skate park at Bannerman Park after chugging a beer. He’s dressed in a pink thong as he does a lap around the rink dodging children and parents.

“The City of St. John’s is proud to provide safe and enjoyable family oriented spaces for our residents. Public drinking and disorderly behaviour are not tolerated in our facilities,” says the advisory issued this morning.

“This is a disgraceful display of indecency and immaturity,” said Mayor Dennis O’Keefe of the man’s stunt.

“I am disappointed in this behaviour, particularly at a location that is meant to be enjoyed by families.”

According to the release, the city has directed the video to the attention of the RNC.

The public is encouraged to contact the RNC if they observe behaviour they believe may be illegal, including the consumption of alcohol in public spaces.

Drinking one beer does not mean that you are a drunk, nor does it illustrate the drinking and driving issues within this province. The people who drank a Gold fish, or almost killed themselves while doing a Nek Nomination never got as much attention as this man is getting. I believe the RNC and town of St. John's has bigger issues to worry about than a guy innocently drinking one beer in a public area. And for the parents, watch for your own children. There are an unbelievable amount of underage children posting the same type of video. Some are drinking excessive amounts. Not to mention how this article illustrates the scene. He did go around children and parents, but the wording of this article makes it seem as though he was violently going around the Loop. Before judging, watch the video and you will most certainly see the people around him laughing, cheering and clapping for him. Look at the positive aspect of the picture. He could have done something stupid and hurting himself or drinking excessively like everyone else has chosen. Don't show so much attention to the person who made a harmless joke. Worry about those who have lost their life. And for the people criticizing the province for this matter, please realize that it is all over the world. This is happening all over the world. In worse, more public situations with more dangerous risks. So don't be so quick to blame it on the province or the man. If you dont want to live in NL for this drinking game, you're on the wrong planet because its all over this one.

I often buy just one or two beers, depending on the size format for consumption at home. Most people who drink are not drunken fools. Access to alcohol is not causative of addictive or antisocial behaviour.

Very funny and ironic.. its okay to be drunk and disorderly on the streets of St. John's, keeping everyone awake with screaming and yelling … just not in the parks folks. Streets go right ahead.

If Danny was still premier, he'd simply censor YouTube for it's "subversion of the idyllic Newfoundland narrative". Problem solved.

People have been using Bannerman as an outdoor drinking spot for decades, did anyone really not see something like this happening at the "loop" eventually? Also, Bannerman Park drinkers tend to be much more civilized than the George Street crowd, which is why the police usually leave them alone. Hopefully that wont change over some skating rink. Let's see the video.

If you have to drink, get back in your car like everyone else.

good grief..!! i've lived in 4 different provinces, i have never seen a place with a drinking problem as bad as this place.. here is a suggestion, instead of building a new pen for criminals, lets build one for drunks.. where they can contain their debauchery for each other's amusement.. but that pen will have to be pretty damn large..
